Jade Anniversary Gifts: 35th, 12th and Every Year Together

|Hong

Jade is the modern gift for the 35th wedding anniversary, where coral is the traditional one, and several anniversary lists, including GIA's, name it the 12th anniversary gemstone. This guide covers both years, what jade means as an anniversary gift, what to choose for her, for him and for your parents, what each budget buys, and how to be sure the piece is real jade. Everything referenced here is in our jade jewelry collection.

I'm Hong, founder of BMjade. I've bought rough directly at the Hpakant mine pits in Myanmar since 2016 and finished it in our own Kunming workshop. We sell jade, so the recommendations here are ours and you should weigh them accordingly; the anniversary logic and the buying checks apply wherever you shop.

What anniversary is jade?

Jade appears on more than one anniversary list, and the lists don't agree with each other, so here is what each one says.

Anniversary Traditional gift Modern gift Gemstone
12th Silk or linen Pearls Jade, on GIA's and The Knot's lists
35th Coral Jade Emerald

GIA, which lists jade for the 12th anniversary, notes that there is no single authoritative anniversary gemstone list, and some lists, the International Gem Society's among them, give the 12th to alexandrite instead. The Knot also names jade the 12th anniversary gemstone, alongside silk or linen as the traditional gift and pearls as the modern one. The 35th is the steadier link: coral is the traditional gift and jade the modern one on lists such as Zola's.

In France, the 26th anniversary is called noces de jade, the jade wedding, as French anniversary guides list it. None of these lists is official, so jade suits any year you want to mark with it, and a vow renewal as well.

What jade means as an anniversary gift

In Chinese culture, jade has stood for virtue and long life for thousands of years, and a jade piece is made to be kept and handed down rather than replaced. That is why it suits a long marriage: it speaks of endurance, harmony and a bond that deepens rather than fades. The anniversary lists themselves are Western gift lists rather than Chinese custom, but the meaning fits them well. Our guide to jade's meaning covers the symbolism in full.

Form adds to the message. Many people wear a jade bangle every day and seldom take it off, and in Chinese tradition that daily closeness is part of its meaning; a matched pair, one piece for each partner, stands for the two of you.

35th anniversary jade gift ideas

Thirty-five years is heirloom territory. This is the anniversary where a piece intended to pass to children or grandchildren makes obvious sense, and where the certificate stops being paperwork and becomes part of the piece's story: a report with a verifiable number is what lets the next generation know what they've been given.

The strongest choices are a fine bangle, a ring for a renewed promise, or an upgrade on a piece given earlier in the marriage. A dragon-and-phoenix pair, the dragon for the husband and the phoenix for the wife, is the other classic, and in our experience lavender is the color couples favor for it when they mark an anniversary. For a ring, the advice in our jade engagement ring guide applies to a renewed promise just as well.

None of this needs the top budget. A 35th anniversary gift that gets worn every day says more than an expensive one that stays in its box.

12th anniversary jade gift ideas

Twelve years is long enough that the couple owns most things they need, which is exactly when a piece meant to be kept becomes the right answer. Jade's associations of endurance, harmony and growth over time read as sincere at twelve years rather than premature.

The strongest choices are a bangle, for someone who likes to wear one every day, or paired pendants, one for each partner, which mark the anniversary without replicating wedding jewelry. If you would rather follow the gift lists than the gemstone lists, silk or linen is the traditional 12th anniversary gift and pearls the modern one.

Jade anniversary gifts for her, for him and for your parents

Jade gifts for her

Earrings are the easiest entry point if she has pierced ears: there is no ring or wrist size to guess, and a pair like our blue-green jadeite flower studs suits everyday wear. A pendant is the most versatile choice when you want the piece to carry meaning. Our blue-green jadeite Ping An Kou necklace is the plain disc that stands for peace and safety (the Ping An Kou guide explains why), and a custom engraved pendant can carry a date or your initials. Browse all jade earrings and jade necklaces.

A bangle is the most traditional choice and the most meaningful, and it needs her size: check our bangle sizing guide before choosing from our real jade bangle with certificate collection. A ring needs her size too, unless you choose an adjustable one from our jade rings. In our experience lavender is a quiet favorite for engagement rings, and it works for a ring that renews a promise too.

For color, lavender and icy white read soft and romantic, and apple green is the classic that never looks dated. Avoid anything dark or heavily carved unless you know she wears that. Our jade colors guide covers which color suits whom.

Jade gifts for him

Bracelets come first. A Cuban link or bead bracelet reads as an object rather than jewelry, sits well beside a watch and doesn't ask him to adopt a look. The Men's Green Jadeite Cuban Link Bracelet is the version we'd give a man receiving his first jade, and the Men's Black Jadeite Cuban Link Bracelet suits a heavier wrist or a man who would rather the jade read dark. In our experience, black and dark jade is the color men choose most.

Bead size sets the look more than the fit. As a rough guide, 8 mm beads suit wrists under 16.5 cm, 10 mm suit 16.5 to 19 cm, and 12 mm and up suit larger wrists; beads too small for the wrist are the most common mistake with men's jade. Whatever the bead size, check the bracelet's own fit range: our stretch bead bracelets fit wrists from 6.5 to 8.5 inches, so for a slimmer wrist a Cuban link bracelet in a set length fits better.

Rings are for men who already wear one. A carved dragon ring or a black jade signet ring is a strong gift for someone with an established style and a poor one for someone who has never worn a ring. A pendant works too: in our experience, a pendant worn under the shirt is the most common way men in China wear jade. A pendant 35 to 45 mm tall on a 55 to 60 cm chain is the usual choice for a man, though his build and how he dresses matter more than any number. Full detail is in our men's jade guide.

Jade gifts for your parents

For parents, especially at a 35th, a matched pair given together as one gift says the most: two pendants in the same stone, such as two of our Ping An Kou necklaces, or a dragon-and-phoenix pair, the classic husband-and-wife set, for a couple who have spent decades together. Choose pieces they will actually wear, on the chain lengths they already use, and skip bangles unless you know both sizes.

Matching jade gifts for couples

Couple gifts don't need to be identical, only connected: two pendants in the same stone are the simplest version. A Ping An Kou pair stands for wholeness and harmony, a dragon-and-phoenix pair is the classic husband-and-wife set (traditionally, parents or in-laws give one to a new couple, the two pieces together as one gift), and mandarin ducks, a symbol of a devoted couple, suit a couple long established. Our guide to the twelve traditional carvings explains what each one means.

If you're choosing for a specific person and want a second opinion, send the anniversary and roughly what they wear through our contact page, and I'll tell you what I'd send.

Jade anniversary gifts by budget

These are BMjade's own prices as of October 2026, in US dollars. For what jade costs across the wider market, by grade and color, see our jade price guide.

Budget at BMjade What it buys Good for
$189 to about $300 Most rings, stud earrings, bead bracelets and pendants, including initial and number pendants from $189 A 12th anniversary, a first jade piece, a gift for him
About $300 to $700 Ping An Kou necklaces, drop earrings, carved and multi-strand bracelets, engraved pendants, Cuban link chain necklaces A matched pair, a 35th anniversary gift for everyday wear
$1,160 to $1,960 Solid jadeite bangles A 35th anniversary, a piece meant to be passed on

Material honesty matters more than the number. A report you can verify settles what the piece is and whether it has been treated; an uncertified piece, at any price, leaves that question open. Whether it's the right gift still comes down to style, size and the person wearing it.

Before you order a jade anniversary gift: size, delivery and packaging

Each kind of piece needs one thing checked before you order.

Gift Check first
Earrings Whether she has pierced ears, and whether she wears studs or drops. Our earrings buying guide covers styles and post metals.
Bangle Her hand measurement against the bangle's inner diameter, using our bangle sizing guide.
Bead bracelet Wrist size and bead size. Our stretch bead bracelets fit wrists from 6.5 to 8.5 inches.
Cuban link bracelet Wrist size, since these come in set lengths.
Ring Ring size, using our ring size guide. Our adjustable open-band rings fit US sizes 6 to 12.
Necklace Chain length and pendant size. Our chains come in lengths from 40 to 60 cm.

Allow time for delivery. Orders are processed within 3 business days. Standard shipping is free and takes 7 to 15 business days; expedited shipping takes 4 to 7 business days and costs $15 to the US. For a fixed anniversary date, order about four weeks ahead with standard shipping or at least two weeks ahead with expedited, and allow extra time around Chinese public holidays, when orders wait until the holiday ends; Spring Festival and National Day are the longest. Duties and taxes are included, so the recipient won't be asked to pay anything on delivery.

Engraved and custom pieces take longer. You approve a design preview first, crafting takes about 7 to 15 business days, and shipping starts after that, so order at least six weeks ahead with standard shipping or five weeks ahead with expedited.

Every piece ships in a gift box made for long-term storage, with its lab certificate. There is no price slip in the parcel, so you can ship straight to the recipient. If the size turns out wrong, you can request a return within 30 days of delivery, and trying the piece on is fine as long as it comes back unworn and undamaged. The buyer pays return postage and the shipping both ways on a size exchange, and solid bangles and one-piece carved rings can't be resized, so check the size first. Engraved and custom pieces can't be returned or exchanged for a change of mind once production has started. The details, including our Lifetime Authenticity Guarantee, are in our refund policy.

How to tell a jade anniversary gift is real jade

Search results for jade anniversary gifts mix in plenty of things that only borrow the name. Many listings sold as a "jade gift" are jade-colored, jade-themed or jade-look rather than jade.

What you'll see listed What it actually is
"Jade-design glass serving board" Printed glass
"Jade-look handle pocket knife" Stainless steel with a resin or stone-look handle
"Coral-colored marble-design board" Not coral and not marble
"Jade heart art framed print" Paper
"Natural green jade sparrow, quartz crystal bird" Quartz, by its own description, not jade

The quick wording check: design, colored, inspired, themed, style or look after the word jade usually means the item borrows jade's color or look, so treat those words as a warning and find the line that says what it is made of. "Jade-handle" tells you only that the handle may be jade. If the listing names jadeite, nephrite or Type A, or gives a report number, it might be jade, and the report is how you find out.

Canadian jade is a different case: it is real jade, nephrite rather than jadeite, and usually priced well below fine jadeite. A listing that names the mineral is telling you something useful.

The second check is the lab report. A report confirms what the material is and whether it has been treated; it can't tell you whether the recipient will love the piece, and it doesn't make a piece an heirloom on its own. Verify it on the laboratory's own website by typing the address yourself and entering the report number; how to read and verify one takes about ninety seconds, and our guide to how labs test jade explains what the report covers. Then check that the photo, size and weight on the report match the piece in your hand; a valid number only proves the report exists. Every BMjade piece ships with a report. Our jadeite is natural Type A, with no bleaching, polymer or dye, finished with a thin polishing wax, a standard final step for jade that wears off with regular wear; our nephrite is natural, not dyed.

When jade is the wrong anniversary gift

Worth saying, since we sell it.

Skip jade in these cases:

  • When they don't like jade or won't wear it, or when it would duplicate a piece they already wear every day. Think about what they reach for now, not what the list says.
  • When you don't know their size and can't ask. Bangles are unforgiving, so choose earrings, a pendant, a stretch bead bracelet or an adjustable ring instead.
  • When you're buying to impress rather than to mean something. Jade's value is largely invisible to anyone who doesn't know the material, so if the gift needs to look expensive across a room, this is the wrong category.

And never give a cracked or damaged piece as a new gift. A family piece that has been broken and repaired is a different matter: whether to wear it or pass it on is the family's decision, and our guide to what happens when jade breaks covers how families treat broken jade.

Jade gifting customs worth knowing for anniversaries

In many Chinese families, jade is traditionally given rather than bought for oneself, especially a first piece. No one enforces it, but it is part of why jade works so well as a gift.

The folk saying "men wear Guanyin, women wear Buddha" is the convention for carved deity pendants, and the traditional reasoning is balance: Guanyin's compassion for a male temperament, the laughing Buddha's tolerance for a female one. It is a saying, not a rule. Women wear Guanyin and men wear the Buddha, and many people simply choose the figure they feel closest to. Our Guanyin pendant guide and Buddha pendant guide cover each figure.

Include the certificate with the gift. It doesn't show the price, and it's part of the piece's documentation; the recipient may need it in thirty years.

Don't disclose what you paid. That is standard for gifts generally, and it matters here because jade prices are opaque enough that a number invites comparison shopping the recipient didn't ask for.

Frequently asked questions about jade anniversary gifts

Is jade the 12th or 35th anniversary gift?

Jade is linked to both, through different lists. It is the modern gift for the 35th anniversary, where coral is the traditional one, and GIA's and The Knot's lists name it the 12th anniversary gemstone, where silk or linen is the traditional gift. No single list is official, and in France the 26th anniversary is called noces de jade.

What is the 35th anniversary gift?

The 35th anniversary gift is coral on the traditional list and jade on the modern one, and emerald is the usual 35th anniversary gemstone. For a jade gift, a bangle, a ring for a renewed promise or a dragon-and-phoenix pair are the classic choices.

What does it mean to give jade for an anniversary?

Giving jade for an anniversary says you expect the bond to last. In Chinese culture jade stands for virtue and long life and is made to be kept and passed down, so it suits a marriage measured in decades. The anniversary lists are Western, but the meaning fits.

What jade anniversary gift should I get for her?

A good jade anniversary gift for her is earrings (if she has pierced ears) or a pendant when you don't know her sizes, and a bangle or ring if you do. Lavender and icy white read soft and romantic, apple green is the classic, and a dragon-and-phoenix or Ping An Kou pair marks the two of you.

What jade anniversary gift should I get for him?

A good jade anniversary gift for him is a Cuban link or bead bracelet that fits his wrist. As a rough guide, 8 mm beads suit wrists under 16.5 cm, 10 mm up to 19 cm and 12 mm above that, but check each bracelet's fit range. In our experience, black and dark jade is the color men choose most, and a ring suits a man who already wears one.

What jade gift suits my parents' anniversary?

A matched pair given together as one gift suits parents best: two Ping An Kou pendants, two pieces in the same stone, or a dragon-and-phoenix pair. Choose pieces they will wear, on chain lengths they already use.

How much should I spend on a jade anniversary gift?

A jade anniversary gift doesn't need a big budget to be real. At BMjade, as of October 2026, certified pieces start at $189, most rings, earrings, pendants and bead bracelets cost $189 to about $300, and solid jadeite bangles run $1,160 to $1,960. Spend doesn't change the meaning, and a report you can verify tells you what you're buying at any price.

How do I know a jade gift is really jade?

A real jade gift names its material and comes with a lab report you can check. Words like design, colored, themed or look after jade usually mean the item only borrows jade's color or look; jadeite, nephrite or Type A is a better sign but still needs the report. Verify the report on the lab's own website by typing the address yourself, and check that its photo, size and weight match the piece.

Should I give the certificate with the gift?

The certificate should go with the gift. It doesn't show the price, and it's part of the piece's documentation: for anything meant to be kept or passed on, it tells the next owner what they have.
