Why Choose Jade Earrings

Why Choose a BMjade Jade Earring

A pair of jade earrings does something no other piece of jewelry can: it frames your face. While bracelets and necklaces add to your overall look, earrings are where light catches your features in conversation, in photographs, and in the mirror every morning. The right pair of jade earrings becomes part of how people see you.

At BMjade, every jade earring in our collection is sourced from authenticated Burmese jadeite suppliers, then independently verified by NGTC (National Gemstone Testing Center). Each pair is finished with hypoallergenic S925 sterling silver, 14K, or 18K gold posts — which matters more for earrings than any other category, because the metal sits inside skin all day.

We don't claim to be the largest jade retailer. We focus on offering genuine Type A jade earrings at fair prices, with documentation to prove what you're buying — and posts safe enough to wear from morning until you take them off at night.

How to Choose the Right Jade Earrings

A 6mm stud reads delicate and refined — perfect for petite features, short hair, or minimalist styling. A 10mm or 13mm "safety button" jade stud has more visual presence and balances better with longer hair, oval or longer face shapes, and stronger features. As a rule, larger faces and bolder personalities can carry larger stones; smaller features look most balanced with smaller stones.

Consider Your Earlobe Anatomy

Heavier jade earrings (over 5 grams per pair) can stretch the piercing hole over years. If you wear earrings daily, lighter stud or threader formats are the safer long-term choice. Drops and dangles are best reserved for occasional wear or for those with reinforced piercings.

Match the Metal to Your Skin Tone and Other Jewelry

Cool skin tones (blue/pink undertones) typically pair best with S925 sterling silver. Warm skin tones (yellow/peach undertones) often look better with 14K or 18K gold. If you already wear other gold jewelry daily, choose gold-set jade earrings for visual consistency.

Factor in Sensitivity

If your ears react to inexpensive earrings, you have a metal allergy — usually to nickel. All BMjade jade earrings use hypoallergenic posts: S925 sterling silver (nickel-free), 14K gold, or 18K gold. None of our earrings contain nickel-based alloys. If you've had reactions before, our solid 18K gold post earrings are the safest choice.

Occasion-Based Recommendations

  • For daily wear: 6–8mm stud earrings in S925 silver
  • For office and business: 8–10mm stud or short drop in 14K gold
  • For first-time jade buyers: Burmese green stud earrings in S925 silver
  • For gifting: Spinach green or lavender jadeite drops in a velvet-lined box
  • For weddings and formal events: 18K gold dangle or drop earrings with hand-carved jadeite
  • For collectors: High-translucency Imperial green or icy lavender studs in 18K gold

Understanding Jade Quality — Type A, Color, and Translucency

Jade earring pricing depends on four factors that experienced buyers always evaluate.

Jadeite vs Nephrite

Both are real jade but different minerals. Jadeite (硬玉), primarily from Burma, is the material most fine jade earring buyers want — it scores 6.5–7 on Mohs, allows greater translucency, and shows the vivid greens and lavenders associated with high-end pieces. Nephrite (软玉), including Hetian jade from China, has a softer, oilier luster, scores 6–6.5 on Mohs, and shows mostly white, cream, and spinach green tones.

For earrings specifically, jadeite is almost always preferred because the small surface area means translucency creates a noticeable luminous quality when light catches the stone — something you want on the highest-visibility position on your body.

What Is Type A Jade?

Type A jade is natural, untreated jadeite that has only been polished. No bleaching, no resin injection, no dye. This is the only grade that holds and gains value over time — and the only category BMjade sells.

Type B has been bleached with acid then injected with polymer resin. It looks bright initially but yellows and degrades within 5–10 years.

Type C has been dyed and the color fades.

When a seller doesn't specify the grade, assume it's not Type A.

Color Varieties in Jade Earrings

  • Imperial Green — vivid emerald-like saturation, the most valuable jadeite color
  • Apple Green — fresh, lighter green tone, popular for daily wear
  • Spinach Green — deeper, slightly muted green with a sophisticated character; especially popular in nephrite earrings
  • Lavender — soft purple, rare and increasingly collected
  • Icy Blue — high-translucency cool tone, modern and ethereal
  • White (Hetian Mutton Fat) — buttery cream nephrite, traditional and elegant

Translucency for Earrings

Because jade earrings sit beside light-catching points on the face — near windows, under indoor lighting, in photo flashes — translucency dramatically affects how the stone reads. A high-translucency jadeite cabochon will appear to glow from within when light passes through it, while a fully opaque stone will look the same in any light. This is why translucent jadeite earrings often command 3–5x the price of opaque pieces of identical color.

How to Spot Real Jade Earrings

The earring market is flooded with imitations — dyed quartzite, glass, plastic, bonded composites, and treated jade — many convincing enough to fool casual buyers. Here are the home tests that work.

Temperature test. Real jade feels distinctly cold against skin and warms slowly. Press an earring stone to your inner wrist for 5 seconds; glass and resin warm up almost immediately, while real jade stays cool.

Density test. Jade is denser than glass or plastic. A real jade stud earring feels surprisingly heavy for its size. If a 8mm cabochon feels light or hollow, it's likely an imitation.

Light test. Hold the earring up to strong light. Real jadeite shows natural inclusions — fibrous structure, faint clouds, subtle color variation. Perfectly clear, perfectly even color almost always means treated, dyed, or synthetic material.

Post inspection. This is unique to jade earrings — examine the metal post. S925 sterling silver should have a "925" stamp on the back. 14K and 18K gold posts should have a "585" or "750" stamp respectively. Plated or nickel-alloy posts often lack any stamp and will trigger reactions in sensitive ears within hours.

Pair consistency check. A real jade earring pair will show two stones with slightly different internal patterns — because no two natural jade pieces are identical. If both stones look perfectly identical, they are almost certainly synthetic, glass, or molded composite.

The most reliable check is the certificate. Every BMjade pair ships with an NGTC report containing a unique number you can verify. No legitimate jade seller should refuse to provide certification.

Jade Earring Care and Hypoallergenic Wear

Jade earrings need different care than other jade jewelry because the metal post is in constant contact with skin.

Daily care for the stone. Wipe each earring gently with a soft microfiber cloth after wearing to remove skin oils, hairspray, perfume, and makeup residue. Avoid harsh chemicals (chlorine, bleach, ammonia) which dull the polish over time.

Daily care for the metal post. This matters more than people realize. Skin oil, sweat, and bacteria accumulate on earring posts and can cause irritation even in hypoallergenic metals if the posts aren't cleaned regularly. Wipe each post weekly with rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab, then rinse and dry.

For sensitive ears. If you experience redness, itching, or swelling, the issue is usually:

  1. Bacteria buildup on a previously fine post — clean the posts thoroughly
  2. Skin irritation from a different earring transferring to the new pair — wear only the new pair for 7 days
  3. An actual nickel allergy — confirm BMjade's hypoallergenic posts (S925/14K/18K), and avoid mixing with cheaper costume earrings

Storage. Store each pair in its own compartment or soft pouch. Earrings should never be stored in bulk together — the posts will scratch other stones, and the stones will scratch other posts.

Shower and sleep rules. Don't shower or sleep in jade earrings. Both accelerate post wear, increase the chance of stone loss, and provide ideal conditions for bacterial growth.

Frequently Asked Questions About Jade Earrings

  • Jade stud earrings sit flush against the earlobe with a single cabochon on a post — no movement, ideal for daily wear and professional settings. Jade drop earrings have a jade element that hangs 15–35mm below the post, adding movement and length to the face. Studs are more versatile; drops are more expressive.

  • Yes. All BMjade jade earrings use hypoallergenic posts — S925 sterling silver (nickel-free), 14K gold, or 18K gold. None of our earrings contain nickel-based alloys, which is the most common cause of earring allergies. If you've had reactions to inexpensive earrings, our 18K gold post earrings are the safest choice.

  • For studs: 6mm reads delicate, 8mm is the most popular size, 10–13mm has stronger visual presence. Smaller features and shorter hair pair better with smaller stones; longer hair and bolder features balance with larger stones. For drops, total length of 20–30mm suits most face shapes for daily wear.

  • Type A jade is natural, untreated jadeite that has only been polished. It is the only grade that holds value over time. Type B has been chemically bleached and resin-injected; Type C has been dyed. Every BMjade jade earring is certified Type A.

  • Yes — jade is well-suited to daily wear, and S925/14K/18K posts are designed for continuous use. We recommend stud or threader formats for daily wear, and reserving drops and dangles for less frequent occasions to reduce strain on the piercing hole. Always remove before showering or sleeping.

  • Real jade feels cold to the touch and warms slowly, is denser than glass for its size, and shows natural inclusions under strong light. The metal posts should be stamped (925, 585, or 750). The two stones in a real pair will show slight natural variation — perfectly identical patterns suggest synthetic or molded material. The most reliable verification is a third-party certificate from NGTC or GIA.

  • In Chinese tradition, jade is called the "Stone of Heaven" and represents protection, harmony, and lasting good fortune. When worn as earrings, jade is believed to balance energy near the head — encouraging clarity, calm focus, and protection from negative influences. Many wearers also choose jade earrings for emotional grounding during stressful periods.

  • S925 sterling silver is more affordable, has a cool-toned brightness that pairs well with green and blue jadeite, and suits cool skin tones. 14K and 18K gold cost more but resist tarnish, have warmer tones that complement warmer skin and lavender or yellow jade, and last longer. 18K is softer but contains more pure gold; 14K is more durable. Both gold options are hypoallergenic.

  • BMjade uses standard butterfly backs on stud earrings and lever-back or French wire closures on drops and dangles. All backings match the post metal (S925/14K/18K). Replacement backs are available on request.

  • Yes. Free shipping is offered to customers on orders over $40. International shipping rates calculate at checkout based on destination. All international orders are fully tracked and ship with the original NGTC certificate.
