Both are real jade but different minerals. Jadeite (硬玉), primarily from Burma, is the material most fine jade ring buyers want — it scores 6.5–7 on Mohs, allows greater translucency, and shows the vivid greens, blues, and lavenders associated with high-end pieces. Nephrite (软玉), including Hetian jade from China, has a softer, oilier luster and shows mostly white, cream, and spinach green tones.

Temperature test. Real jade feels distinctly cold against skin and warms slowly. Press the ring stone to your inner wrist for 5 seconds; glass and resin warm up almost immediately, while real jade stays cool.
Density test. Jade is denser than glass or plastic. A real jade ring feels surprisingly heavy for its size — even adjustable rings have noticeable weight in the stone.
Light test. Hold the ring up to strong light. Real jadeite shows natural inclusions — fibrous structure, faint clouds, subtle color variation. Perfectly clear, perfectly even color almost always means treated, dyed, or synthetic material.
Band inspection. Examine the metal. S925 sterling silver should have a "925" stamp inside the band. 18K gold should have "750" or "18K." Plated metal often lacks any stamp and tarnishes within weeks. BMjade bands use only S925 silver and 18K gold components, all stamped.
