BMjade at the 2026 Kunming Stone Expo: 10 Bangles Sold in a Day, and the Question Every Buyer Asked First

|Hong

In early June, an invitation arrived from HCT Exhibitions and CKISE, the organizers of the China Kunming International Stone Expo. Would BMjade exhibit at the 2026 edition?

We didn't need long to decide. This year's expo was the 20th, themed "20 Years of the Stone Expo Promise," and for anyone in the jadeite trade it's the fixed appointment of the year: five themed halls, roughly 50,000 m² of exhibition space, more than 2,000 booths at the Kunming Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Center. Being invited to stand among them, as a natural Burmese jadeite brand, was an honor we took seriously.

So from July 9 to 13, BMjade set up at booth 8032, directly under our gold-on-black sign: Natural Jade Jewelry. Authentic, Premium, Timeless. Over our three busiest days we spoke face-to-face with more than a hundred serious buyers, and our classic green jade bangle sold ten pieces in a single day. But the number that stayed with us wasn't a sales figure. It was how many conversations opened with the exact same question.

The Expo in Brief

Kunming earns its crowd. Yunnan sits on the border trade route for Burmese jadeite, and every July the city fills with collectors, designers, wholesale buyers, and jewelry students. The jade and jadeite hall was, as always, the packed one.

The 20th-anniversary program went well beyond the booths. Hall 6 hosted a graduation exhibition of jewelry-design students in traditional Yunnan dress, and we watched their group photo being taken on the blue carpet outside our hall on day two, hundreds of students in silver headdresses. Hard to stay cynical about the trade when you see that.

Inside Booth 8032: The Certificate Question

Here's what surprised us. We expected buyers to lead with price. They didn't.

Nearly every conversation started the same way: "Can you provide an NGTC certificate for this?" NGTC is the National Gemstone Testing Center, China's most recognized gemological authority, and for jadeite buyers its report is the difference between confidence and a polite walk-away. The market has been burned too many times by treated B-grade and dyed C-grade jade sold as natural.

Our answer was yes, every time. Each bangle we sell either ships with its NGTC certificate or can be sent for testing before delivery, at the buyer's request. Once we said that, shoulders visibly dropped. The real conversation could start.

The second thing buyers wanted was the flashlight demo. If you've never bought jadeite in person, this is the ritual: our staff holds a small penlight flush against the wall of the bangle, and the stone lights up from within. What you're reading in that glow is what the trade calls "water" (种水), the translucency and fineness of the crystal structure. An icy-grade bangle carries the light deep and even, like frozen spring water. Then we tilt the light to about 45 degrees and sweep it slowly around the full circle. That pass reveals everything the stone has to say: cotton wisps, stone lines, any hidden crack. Natural A-grade jadeite shows a clean, tight texture under the beam. Acid-treated jade betrays itself with a spiderweb etch pattern.

We ran that demo more than a hundred times over three days. A few buyers asked to hold the light themselves and check every bangle in the tray. We encouraged it. That's exactly the kind of buyer we want.

The Bangles We Brought

We built the booth selection around our bangle collection, laid out in silk-lined gift boxes. Four groups:

Classic green. The green jade bangle that outsold everything else. Ten left the booth on our busiest day. Five more buyers photographed it, tried it on, and told us they needed to think it over. Our sales team's honest read: for a few of them it sat just above budget, and hesitation at that price point is completely fair. Nobody should rush a jadeite purchase.

Icy green. The 61.5mm icy green bangle with floating green drew the larger-wristed buyers, while the 51–55mm slim icy green bangles fit most women who stopped by. The 53mm floating flower bangle with its moss-green drift was the one people photographed most under the penlight.

Icy white. The 55–56mm icy translucent white bangle quietly won over buyers who came in asking for green. Under the flashlight it glows like frosted glass.

Lavender. Purple jadeite always stops foot traffic. We brought the 54mm icy lavender bangle and the 57mm lavender-green bangle, which carries both colors in one stone. More than one visitor called the lavender-green "the one I'd buy if I were buying for myself."

Why This Matters If You Buy Jade Online

If you're reading this from outside China, you probably can't hold a penlight against our bangles yourself. That's the core anxiety of buying jadeite online, and we get it.

What the expo confirmed for us is that the trust problem is universal. The buyers standing at our booth, people who live an hour from the Burmese border trade, asked for the same two things you would: independent certification and proof of what's inside the stone. So we treat online orders the same way. NGTC certification available on every bangle. Video of the flashlight test on your actual bangle before it ships, on request. If a stone doesn't pass the light, it doesn't get listed.

Selling ten bangles in a day at a professional expo, in front of buyers who know how to check, is the kind of validation no ad campaign buys.

What's Next

We're grateful to the organizers for the invitation, and to every visitor who stopped at booth 8032. The five buyers still deciding on the green bangle: we'll hold your sizes through the end of July.

For everyone else, the pieces from the expo are back in our online collection, and we photograph and light-test each one before listing. Questions about a specific bangle's certificate or a sizing consult are one email away. And we're already planning next year's booth — Kunming in July has become our fixed appointment.

FAQ

What is the Kunming Stone Expo?

The China Kunming International Stone Expo is Yunnan's largest annual jade and stone trade fair, founded in 2007 and held each July at the Kunming Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Center. The 2026 edition, its 20th, ran July 9–13 with five themed halls and over 2,000 booths.

Are BMjade bangles natural Grade A jadeite?

Yes. Every bangle we sell is untreated natural Burmese jadeite, what the trade calls Grade A. We verify each piece with a flashlight translucency test before listing, and NGTC certification from China's National Gemstone Testing Center is available with your order.

Can I see a bangle before it ships?

Yes. On request, we'll send a video of your exact bangle under the penlight test so you can see its translucency, texture, and structure before it leaves Kunming. It's the same demonstration we ran for buyers at our expo booth.
